Pattern: Mock Cable Bobble Hat by The Mercerie
Yarn: The Mercerie British Aran in Cinnamon (right) & Chestnut (left)
Finished: November 2014

I got this pattern from The Mercerie stall at the 2014 Yarndale, which took place in Skipton, North Yorkshire. My mum, my sister and I went along for the day, and it was brilliant. I bought the yarn and the pattern together in a kit.
This is a really simple pattern to knit, but it looks more complicated. The mock cable stitch means that you don’t have to use a cable needle, but you get a similar effect. The yarn is sturdy, and the hat keeps it’s shape really well.
I’ve worn this hat for two winters now, and I always get nice comments. I made my sister a matching one, though in a slightly darker shade, for Christmas (above). I also made this hat for my grandma in a pink cotton. I had to use bigger needles, and cast on a lot more stitches, as the cotton was much finer than the aran. It worked well, though created a slightly different look as there were a lot more cables round the body of the hat.
