********************************

This was the first pattern I knitted from Susan Crawford’s ‘Vintage Knitting Patterns Vol: 2’. My mum bought the book when we were at Yarndale, and Susan signed it for her. There are a lot of really nice patterns in it, so I borrowed it to make this one.

The pattern is from the 1930s section of the book. It was really nice to knit. The front and back are identical, and the sleeves are knitted separately. The pattern was easy enough to memorise, which meant that although it is knitted with thin needles and fine yarn, it actually grew quickly enough.

The original pattern was made out of Shetland wool. I thought this would be a bit too scratchy when next to the skin. I see this as more of a top than a jumper, so I wanted a softer yarn. I was getting yarn for this pattern whilst at Yarndale. I was hoping for a nice yellow colour, but I couldn’t find anything suitable. I went for this lovely grey, baby alpaca silk yarn. It is very soft.
