I knitted this as a present for my friend who had a wee baby girl before Christmas. She’d mentioned that she’d knitted some cardigans for the baby so I was trying to find something a bit different to knit as a gift. I came across this beautiful little dress on Etsy. It’s a vintage pattern but I think most patterns are timeless.
The pattern was quite easy to memorise and it was nice to knit. The yoke was slightly more difficult to knit as you have to change to four needles. There were a few things in the pattern that were confusing but my mum helped me to work them out. I was getting confused when first making the yoke as it said to turn the garment at the end of the first row. Well, it’s knitted in a circle so I was confused at how you could turn it. In the end we worked out that you had to pull the garment through and over, turning it from inside out to the right way out. It makes perfect sense now but at the time it was difficult! The pattern also doesn’t have any commas in it at all so you really have to know what you’re doing for it to make sense.
The fastening at the back is a lovely touch and was easy to make.
