Welcome to my knitting website.
I’m Tina. I’m 27 and I’m originally from Lancashire in the North West of England. I now live in Glasgow where I enjoy a busy career as a professional folk musician. With music being both my hobby and my job, it’s great to have other hobbies as well. Knitting is a BIG hobby of mine.
My grandma was a lovely knitter. She knitted many things for my mum and uncle when they were little. She obviously passed on her skills to mum, who is one of the best knitters in the world (I know I’m biased, but I honestly believe she is!) Mum did a degree in Knitwear & Fashion, and she’s been knitting for herself, my sister and I, for as long as I can remember. There’s absolutely nothing she can’t knit, and I’m in awe of her. She has hundreds, and hundreds of patterns in folders, and boxes, that she has collected over the years. I love going home and looking through all the patterns to choose my next knitting project. A lot of knitwear patterns are timeless and I love making things from different decades, but there are a few garish patterns from the 80s, which I think I’ll leave in the box.
I remember learning to knit when I was small. I could knit and purl, but I never followed a pattern, and I never completed anything. I was at home for Christmas in 2012, my mum was knitting away as usual, and I asked if she could show me how to knit again. So I began to cast on, knit and purl, with some scrap yarn. It wasn’t long before I had the hang of it, and mum gave me a cable mitten pattern to try. This was the first pattern that my mum made when she was about 7 years old. I followed the pattern, and to my surprise, they actually turned out looking like mittens! I was hooked then. I moved on to some cushion patterns with a cable front. After this I started making clothes for myself, and now I’m a full on knitting fanatic. I get very excited to go to shows like Yarndale in Yorkshire, Edinburgh Yarn Festival, and Knit & Stitch with my mum and sister. My yarn collection is growing, I’ve got every size needle under the sun, I get knitting presents for birthdays and Christmases, and I’m constantly thinking about what to knit next. If only there was more time to knit!
Have a read of my various blogs on projects I’ve made, and other knitting related writing.
